In Playtime, Marco Grasso introduces an intimate and affective relational dimension, constructing an image in which strength is transformed into care and protection. The two polar bears, captured in a moment of close contact, emerge from a neutral and rarefied background that amplifies their presence, asserting themselves as a form of unity constructed through connection. The composition is structured around a delicate balance between the two figures: the adult’s body, solid and gathered, becomes a space of support and security, while the cub, positioned above, introduces a vertical dynamic that animates the whole. The contact between the two subjects defines a precise emotional centre, around which the entire visual construction is organized. The painting, highly controlled, conveys the complexity of the fur through a dense and luminous materiality, in which tonal variations of white inflected with both cool and warm reflections create depth and softness.
