Blend (2017) is a work representative of Angelo Accardi's research, in which different visual languages and cultural references coexist in a deliberately unstable balance. The artist stages a contemporary interior traversed by icons of pop culture and 20th-century art, juxtaposed without hierarchy and united by a strong narrative tension.
On the wall, a female figure in pop style dialogues with a direct reference to Keith Haring's aesthetic, creating a visual short circuit between comic book imagery and symbolic art. At the center of the composition is the ostrich, a recurring subject in Accardi's work, a symbol of disorientation and alienation, which introduces a surreal and disturbing element into the domestic space.
The mixed technique, characterized by drips, layers, and gestural interventions, gives the work a strong material energy and an immediate visual impact. The title Blend alludes to a mixture of styles, eras, and meanings that reflects the complexity of the present and the continuous overlapping of images in contemporary society.
