I Love Napoli is an intense and deeply identity-driven work by Angelo Accardi, created on cardboard, a fragile and urban medium that amplifies the sense of urgency, memory, and lived reality. Cardboard is not a neutral choice: it becomes the skin of the city, a porous surface on which time, history, and emotion leave their mark.
The scene is set in a vertical and stratified Naples, where architecture becomes a narrative body. At the center, a building is transformed into an urban totem on which three monumental, powerful, and silent gazes emerge. These are eyes that observe, protect, and judge: three symbolic presences that recall the collective soul of the city, its sacred and profane memory, its myths, heroes, and people. Naples has always looked at itself and those who pass through it.
A pink blimp appears in the sky with the words ‘I Love Napoli’: a pop, ironic, and affectionate sign that floats between celebration and declaration of love. It is not folklore, but emotional belonging. On the ground, the blue ostrich, an iconic figure in Accardi's poetics, crosses the urban space like a foreign and poetic body: a symbol of disorientation, but also of resistance, of survival in a complex and stratified context.
The painting is energetic, dirty, crossed by drips, splashes, writings, and gestural marks that interact directly with the cardboard material. Nothing is smooth, nothing is decorative: everything is alive, unstable, real. Naples is not idealized, but felt, inhabited, restored in its visual and symbolic power.
