“The Last Call” by Gaetano Di Dio is a contemporary reinterpretation of Michelangelo's masterpiece, transforming its classical structure into a critical reflection of modern society. The work explores the chaos of our time: from wars and conflicts at the bottom, to corrupt politics depicted as serpentine struggles, to the superficiality of modern sports and the moral decadence of high places. In the center, a robot replaces Christ, symbolizing technology as the new deity of the modern age. The artist includes himself through an autobiographical touch: his own skin, held by a motorcyclist from the “Vita Veloce Team,” representing the frenzy of contemporary life, a non-stop race with no clear goal, but with individual paths contributing to a collective masterpiece. The work is an evocative reflection on chaos, technological domination and the human condition in the 21st century.
