In In & Out – The Blending of the Senses, Luca Bellandi stages one of the central themes of his research: clothing as a threshold, as a form that preserves the memory of the body without ever revealing it. There is no human presence, but rather an inhabited void, a bust that exists as a trace, a shell, a sensory echo.
The work depicts a garment suspended in space, placed within a classical and rarefied architecture. The garment does not clothe anyone, and for this very reason it becomes a projection device: what we see is not a body, but the possibility of a body. Around the bust, orbital elements and circular trajectories suggest a continuous flow of perceptions, as if the senses—sight, touch, memory—were revolving around an absent center.
The title In & Out refers to a constant movement between interiority and exteriority: what is normally intimate is exposed, while the body, which should be visible, disappears. Bellandi works on this perceptual inversion, transforming the garment into a porous boundary between identity and space, between private experience and public dimension.
The soft, enveloping light contributes to a suspended, contemplative atmosphere, accentuating the almost ritualistic nature of the scene. The plate print amplifies the formal purity of the image and its depth, giving the work an elegant, silent, and intensely conceptual presence.
Part of The Unseen project, Bellandi's work reflects on the invisibility of the contemporary subject and the possibility of perceiving what is no longer physically present. In & Out – The Blending of the Senses does not represent a body, but evokes it, transforming absence into a visual and sensory experience.
